One small thing, done well.

A note to self: follow the interesting idea, make a little progress, and leave perfection for another day.

Roger GrimstadLearning out loud.

An idea has a way of growing before you’ve even started. A simple page becomes a whole platform. A short note becomes a series. The list gets longer, and the first step gets harder to see.

Sometimes the most useful question is: what’s the smallest version of this that would still be worth making?

Choose something you can finish

Write one paragraph. Fix one awkward part of a page. Try the tool you’ve been meaning to understand. Small work counts, especially when it teaches you something.

Finishing a small thing gives you a kind of information that planning alone can’t. You see how it feels, where it breaks, and whether you want to keep going.

Leave yourself a trail

Keep a note about what you tried. What worked? What was confusing? What would you do differently next time?

It doesn’t have to be elaborate. A few clear sentences are often enough to turn an afternoon’s experiment into something you can return to.

That’s part of what this notebook is for. One small thing at a time.
